In 2020, Robert and LaJean were giving serious consideration about where to send their son, John (Class ‘25), to high school. The options in California didn’t quite match the vision they had for his education, but then the Lord put the idea of searching specifically for a Lutheran preparatory high school in Carson Valley onto their hearts.
“To my amazement, SLHS landed at the top of my computer’s search engine!” Robert said. “I had never heard of SLHS so we immediately scheduled an appointment to meet the head of school and tour the campus.”
The three visited the campus, made the decision to enroll John for the Fall of 2021, and started making plans to move to Nevada. SLHS and Carson Valley soon became new homes for the Salonites family, and John went on to have a rewarding 4-year experience. His ability to participate in academics, athletics, the arts, and growing in his Christian faith, provided a solid foundation for entry into college and beyond.
But graduation was not the end of their story – they believed so much in SLHS, its mission, and the people in its community that when Robert was invited to join the SLHS Board of Directors in the Fall of 2025, he happily accepted the call.
“LaJean and I began giving to SLHS to help support the athletic programs that our son participated in starting as a freshman,” Robert continued. “We also attended our first of five Gifts of Grace Dinner & Auctions that same year. We were so inspired by Gifts of Grace’s mission and fellowship that we decided to co-sponsor a table annually so that we can bring friends who are often unacquainted with the school.”
The positive experience at SLHS affirmed the family’s belief for those who prioritize the future for the next generation, then giving to SLHS is one of the best and most gratifying investments a family will ever make.
“Now more than ever, youth need schools that inspire academic excellence and are rooted in Christ-Centered values. SLHS delivers all that, and more.”
