Unshaken in God’s Word

By Pastor Micah Glenn, Head of School

John 1:1–14

This week, during time with my Falcon Family, I was asking a student about his job. He mentioned his boss, so I asked, “Is your boss a young guy or an old guy?” The student responded, “He’s really old, like 40 or something.” Insert crying emoji. As someone who is a few years older than 40, that truth hurt a little. Apparently, I’ve officially entered the “really old” category, at least according to a high school freshman! Of course, whether 40 is actually old is a matter of perspective. I would strongly argue that it isn’t, and I’ve even heard people say 40 is the new twenty. What we believe to be true is often shaped by our experiences, opinions, and understanding of the world. And while our perspectives may change as we grow older and wiser, there is one truth that never changes: God’s Word.

There is one truth that never changes: God’s Word.

In John 1:1–14, we discover something incredible about God’s Word. John begins by telling us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” He then reveals that this eternal Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus Christ is the living Word of God! This means that God’s Word is more than words written on a page or stories passed down through generations. God’s Word is living, active, and eternally true because it reveals Jesus, who is himself “the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).

While the world around us changes, opinions shift, and our understanding of life develops, including what we consider “really old,” God’s truth remains the same. In Jesus, we see the fullness of God’s grace and truth, and through faith in him, we receive the incredible promise of becoming children of God. That’s what it means to be Unshaken in God’s Word. Our confidence doesn’t rest in our own understanding or changing perspectives, but in Jesus Christ, the eternal Word made flesh, whose love, grace, and promises never change.
