Sierra Lutheran Lady Falcons: 2026/27 NIAA Class 2A Girls Golf State Champions
I am proud to share that our Lady Falcons won the 2A State Championship at Jackpot Golf Club on October 13 and 14. Last season, we won at regionals, but finished third at state with a team score of 896. This year, the girls set a state title as their goal. After a very positive season, they won the 2A West Regional Tournament at Fallon Golf Course for back-to-back regional titles. They followed that up by improving their state score by 78 strokes to bring home the state championship!
When we were driving to Jackpot, we found that the course was covered in snow, so we were unable to play a practice round at the course to gain some familiarity. We ended up playing in Elko instead, where we played our state tournament two years ago. The day brought wind and heavy rain, which prepared the girls for unpredictable weather and conditions.
The state tournament was a two-day tournament with two rounds of 18 holes. After day one, we were tied with Oasis Academy at 410. Consistency has been our focus all season, and the girls shot 408 on day two. A team score of 818 gave the Lady Falcons a convincing win, besting Oasis by 25 strokes. Freshman Sidney Smith led the way for the team with rounds of 84 and 86, giving her a two-day score of 170. After day one, she was tied with Oasis Academy’s Meirra Cavanaugh, whom she battled against throughout the season. In the end, Sidney’s strong play won her the title by 4 strokes. Every player on the team contributed to the win.
Here are the players and their state scores…
Sidney Smith 84, 86 (170) – 1st place
Briella Bodenstein 105, 109 (214) – 9th place
Lily Sumner 113, 102 (215) – 10th place
Rossi Erven 108, 111 (219) – 12th place
Alissa Waller 124, 116 (240) – 22nd place
Alternate: Jennifer Fleischmann
Our program had a record 13 players this season. Thank you to all of them for their hard work, positive attitudes, and faith to bring home this state title. A big thanks to assistant coaches Matthew Wahlers and David Hillis, and to our parents for their amazing support all season long. Without your dedication, this would not be possible. Thank you to KOLO 8 sports reporter Bryce Brauneisen for featuring the Lady Falcons. The link is below. Thank you to Sunridge Golf Course for opening their facility to us and being our home course. Thank you also to Falafel Fresh in Carson City, which is normally closed on Wednesdays, for hosting our celebration and awards night on Wednesday, October 28 at 6 PM.
It was a season to remember… Go Lady Falcons!
