Since opening our doors in 2002, Sierra Lutheran High School has been on a remarkable journey of growth, expanding in size, impact, opportunity, and community connection. What began as a vision in Minden, Nevada has evolved into a thriving institution that prepares students for success while remaining rooted in Christian values.

From Humble Beginnings to Flourishing Campus
Sierra Lutheran started in small space in Minden, NV. Our founders called in principal Norm Brauer, who was instrumental in the pioneering years. By 2010, the school had outgrown its temporary home and moved to a beautiful new $6.5 million campus on 38 acres overlooking Carson Valley. This first phase included modern classrooms, a science lab, a beautiful Gymnasium, and the foundation for what would become a truly impressive educational facility.
The campus continued to evolve, including officially naming the gymnasium the Norm Brauer Gym in 2018, honoring his years of service, who can still be found cheering at athletic events and occasionally lending a coaching hand. Our Board of Directors continue to translate ideas into achievements as the latest expansion project, completed in 2025, adds 14,000 square feet, including:
- The Pastor Juls Clausen Memorial Center – Named after a beloved SLHS principal who has since gone home to be with the Lord. This multipurpose space is our lunch facility, for chapel services, and also hosts our community events, town hall meetings, and lectures.
- The Gary Casteel Sr. Media Production Room – Named after a longtime pillar of support and encouragement for SLHS, this room is an amazing new space for our tech and media program. Students are already learning audio, video, streaming, and lighting for Chapel, with hopes to layer in production editing, recording studio, a podcast facility, and more.
- State-of-the-art Igloo Room: The technology creates shared virtual environments where multiple people can interact, learn, and explore as a group. Whether for medical training, historical education, or other collaborative experiences, this room will take an entire class to another world.

Academic Excellence That Speaks for Itself
Our commitment to college preparatory academics has yielded impressive results. Sierra Lutheran graduates consistently outperform national averages. Our Academic Olympics team, led by Dr. Tami Seddon, has earned five (5) state championships, while individual students have achieved National Merit recognition.
We maintain a stellar graduation rate, with the vast majority of graduates continuing to college, consistently earning significant scholarship awards. Our graduating classes have grown. From a once record high of 30 seniors in our Class of 2017, we have passed that record and project over 50 graduates in 2027. With our accreditation in hand, our recent academic enhancements include partnerships with Western Nevada College for concurrent enrollment opportunities and a student advocacy program ensuring every student rises to their potential.

Where Athletes Discover Their Potential
Our athletic programs have grown from modest beginnings to include eleven different sports. Today, we offer everything from traditional sports like basketball and baseball to newer additions like wrestling and our ski team.
Alumni connections remain strong, with former students returning as coaches and mentoring the next generation. Head coaches continue to expand their coaching staff, ensuring every athlete receives individual attention and has the opportunity to grow alongside their teammates.
Sierra Lutheran Athletics gives students who might be overlooked elsewhere a chance to discover their potential and enjoy a well-rounded high school experience. Because some athletes peak at different times, every student gets an opportunity to shine as an athlete… and they do.

Visual Identity Evolution
As Sierra Lutheran has matured as an institution, our visual identity has evolved alongside our growth. Our classic mountain logo captures our setting in Carson Valley, surrounded by natural beauty and majestic peaks. The cross prominently featured in the design serves as a constant reminder of our Christ-centered mission and focus.
Our lettermark received a thoughtful update to serve our needs better. The new lettermark design maintains the familiar interlocked SL while adding three distinctive feathers representing both our Falcon identity and the Trinity. This updated lettermark has a commanding presence in any format, from social media profiles to embroidered merchandise. The carefully crafted negative space creates a sense of movement and flight, reflecting how our graduates are equipped to soar while remaining rooted in their Sierra Lutheran foundation. Rather than replacing our history, this new identifier is the offspring of that history and represents our school well.

Community Partnership and Giving Back
Our annual fundraising events have become community traditions. The Sierra Lutheran Golf Classic, now in its 23rd year, supports our athletic programs, while our Gifts of Grace Dinner Auction, moving into its 24th year, raises funds for tuition assistance. What makes these events special is seeing former students who once benefited from these events, return as supporters, creating a beautiful cycle of giving that ensures the next generation has the same opportunities.

Looking Forward
Under the leadership of Pastor Micah Glenn, who joined as Head of School in 2024, Sierra Lutheran continues building on its strong foundation while embracing new opportunities. With enrollment consistently over 150 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12:1, we maintain the close-knit community feel that has always defined us while preparing for strategic growth.
Our story is far from over. Each graduating class adds new chapters to our legacy, and each new student brings fresh possibilities. From our founding families who took a leap of faith in 2002 to the current generation preparing to make their mark on the world, Sierra Lutheran remains committed to its mission of providing a Christ-Centered Excellent Education.

We invite you…
…to become part of this continuing story. Whether you’re considering Sierra Lutheran for your family, looking for ways to support our mission, or seeking to partner with us in preparing the next generation of leaders, there’s a place for you in our community. Together, we’re building something that will impact lives for generations to come.
“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.” (1 Chronicles 29:14 ESV)
We humbly recognize our role as stewards of something that will endure beyond any individual’s time here, grateful that God continues to entrust us with His school, whose lasting impact depends entirely upon His grace.
Our story is still being written, and we’re excited about the chapters yet to come.
