SLHS Announces Summer Camp Programs
SLHS-UNR Summer Science Spectacular
Entering Grades: 6-8

The University of Nevada, Reno is teaming up with Sierra Lutheran High School to host the UNR-SLHS Summer Science Spectacular. Directed by the UNR colleges of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources; Science, Engineering, Division of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, and High Sierra Area Health Education Center, this one-week day camp provides students entering grades 6 - 8 the chance to become excited about the many fields of science. Students will spend time participating in inquiry-based, group activities and exploring different majors and careers. Dates: 6/17-6/21/2013 • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. • Price: $125


Summer Solutions Academic Preparedness Workshop Entering Grades 5-8

Summer Solutions is a carefully constructed program that is designed to give students the academic edge they need heading into next school year. Subject highlights include, but are not limited to, note taking, reading skills, study skills, test-taking strategies, time management & organization skills, and memory techniques. Creating through the Visual Arts • Entering Grades: 4 - 8

The Brewery Arts Center will offer a fun and educational camp, “Creating through the Visual Arts” on the SLHS campus. Students will receive instruction and experiences in various aspects of the visual arts, including drawing and painting, using the four main elements of tension, medium, perspective, and plan. All materials are included in tuition. A final class celebration and camp presentation will be held on June 28th for friends and family. Dates: 6/24-6/28/2013 • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. • Price: $125


Creative Acting and Playwriting • Entering Grades: 4 - 8

The Brewery Arts Center will offer a Creative Acting and Play Writing experience on the SLHS campus. All students will have the opportunity to experience, explore and have fun learning the foundational concepts of acting, character creation, play writing, pantomime, tableaux, theater sports/improvisation games, movement for the stage, voice for the actor and Alexander Technique in a positive and safe environment. A final group celebration and camp presentation will be held on August 2nd for friends and family. Dates: 7/22-8/2/13 • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. • Price: $250


 
Falcon Basketball Camp • Entering Grades 5-8

The Falcon Summer Basketball Camp, under the direction of SLHS Boys’ Head Coach Alan Reed and Girls’ Head Coach Michael Nelson, is designed to grow each player’s knowledge and skill by teaching individual and team fundamentals, supported through individual and team competitions. In addition to assisting each camper acquire sport-specific skills, the program also desires to have each attendee build self esteem and experience the importance of the development of character in sports - and in life. “Video Production, from Camera to Computer and a
City Wide Contest” Summer Camp • Entering Grades: 4-8

In this exciting and fun-filled camp, students will learn and create in a working television studio at the ACCtv media center on the BAC campus (511 W King Street). Students will work with cameras, audio and lighting equipment and learn editing, video production and computer techniques. Students will have the opportunity to create scripts and film their own videos/DVD’s and, if they would like to, they can submit them to YouTube, for airing on cable access, or the summer citywide competition in Carson City.(note: All equipment and supplies are provided in the camp fee).
